Jefferson County Food Coop
Jefferson Coop is a buying club that orders from www.UNFI.com once a month. They have loads of healthy and organic choices and a full range of ‘green’ products. We also carry locally grown honey and McCutcheon’s Jams and Juices (Frederick) and hope to expand our ‘local’ product line to include locally grown produce and meats in the near future. Distribution is once a month on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All members are expected to work a 4 hour shift every 3 months. There are a variety of jobs and shifts:
1. Meeting the Truck (Tuesday afternoon before distribution)
2. Breaking down the bulk orders (Thursday evening before distribution)
3. Early Saturday shift (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) filling orders
4. Late Saturday shift (10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) helping people with orders/inventory.
The coop is located in Shenandoah Junction in the old Ruritan Building. Coming from Shepherdstown, turn right on Shenandoah Junction Road between Jefferson H.S. and the new Middle School; at the intersection turn right onto 4th street,go one block to Ruby street and you will see the Ruritan Building in front on the left. Yearly dues are $25. There is an 11% markup on pricing and also a 3% WV sales tax. The more that’s ordered the bigger the discount we get, so come join us and we ALL benefit!
